Stain Colour Selection Tips

< Back  | Other Tips >

Keep in mind that the shade of stain indicated on colour charts may not be the shade you end up with in reality.  This is because the basic colour and absorbency of individual timbers varies from timber to timber.

As a rule of thumb, 'the lighter the stain colour, the greater the chance of the timber underneath affecting the overall colour.'  The colour will also get richer and more intense with each coat. Remember too that most stains darken as they dry.
